Indication of Catheterisation



  • To collect a sample of sterile urine specimen
  • To relieve discomfort by bladder distension
  • To assess the amount of residual urine in case of incomplete emptying
  • To manage patient with spinal-cord injuries
  • In case of prostatic enlargement,to prevent outflow
  • In case of operations on bladder,urethra and surrounding structure.
  • To prevent urethral obstruction from blood clots.
  • To give bladder irrigation.
  • In case of terminal illness
  • To manage incontinence in unconscious patients.
